The ephemeral in the pictures of Cristiano Prim By Lucila Vilela "You have to draw the eternal out of the transitory" Charles Baudelaire How can an image load up with time? The question Agamben puts us in his essay on the treaty De la arte di ballare et danzare, by Domenico Piacenza marks the temporal presence in the art of dance. Even still the body at dance sustains the movement. It's what Didi-Huberman calls "immovable dynamism." When the body even stopped, doesn't stop dancing. There are multiple forces within that sustain the movement in a constant detention. On stage this temporality saturated moment is revealed as an audible silenced. Capturing the dance is one of the most difficult tasks a photographer can find. The moving body is fleeting and between jumps, falls, pauses and turns that happen and fade away in fractions of seconds. It's needed to find the exact time for the click. The photograph as a light design can grasp the time of each movement, but to the extent that a movement turns into another the image escapes. The photographer must be aware of that flash, tweaking the look to hook this fleetingness. The sensitive vibration of the dancing body establishes a challenge for photography. Retaining the subtlety of an ephemeral art requires a keen insight. Finding the time in the spaces before the disappearance requires being attentive to the smallest gestures. When image is affected by the invisible it might reveal the variants of a passage. A decisive event that focuses on the bodies at a precise moment. In addition to understanding the fleeting nature of dance, there is the essential treatment of photographic craft: light. We know the scenic light is different.
